چکیده

Abstract. Recent advancements and the widespread availability of low-cost microcontrollers electronic components have created new opportunities for developing using low-cost, open-source instrumentation near-surface geophysical investigations. Geophysical methods that do not require ground contact, such as frequency-domain electromagnetics, allow one or two users to quickly acquire significant amounts resistivity data in a cost-effective manner. The Colorado School Mines electromagnetic system (CSM-EM) is proof-of-concept instrument capable sensing conductive objects environments, similar concept commercial-grade equipment while costing under USD 400 build. We tested functionality CSM-EM controlled laboratory setting during design phase validated it over target an outdoor environment. transmitter antenna can generate current 2.5 A, emit signals are detectable by receiver at offsets up 25 m. requires minor refitting change functioning frequency, has been operationally 0.4 1.6 kHz. signal be measured off-the-shelf digital multimeters. Future directions will focus on improving mechanical stability with goal acquired make quantitative measurements subsurface resistivity.

Low-cost frequency-domain photon migration instrument for tissue spectroscopy, oximetry, and imaging

Britton Chance University of Pennsylvania Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19104 E-mail: [email protected] Abstract. We described a low-cost, frequency-domain photon migration spectroscopy instrument by using in-phase and quadrature demodulation technique in a 140-MHz homodyne system. A time constant of 1 ms was obtained. A frequency-division multiple...

Low-Frequency Electromagnetic Scattering

The main result of this paper is to reduce the calculation of higher-order terms in the asymptotic expansions of the electric and magnetic elds at low frequencies to the solutions of certain canonical problems. We also provide a new and simple variational proof of the convergence of the electric and magnetic elds solutions of the scattering problem for the Maxwell equations as the frequency goe...

Induction of chromosomal aberrations in human primary fibroblasts and immortalized cancer cells exposed to extremely-low-frequency electromagnetic fields

Background: Rapidly increasing possibilities of exposure to environmental extremely low-frequency electromagnetic fields (ELF-EMF) have become a topic of worldwide investigation. Epidemiological and laboratory studies suggest that exposure to ELF-EMF may increase cancer risk therefore assessment of chromosomal damage in various cell lines might be of predictive value for future risk es...

Low-cost, frequency-domain, fluorescence lifetime confocal microscopy.

We describe the theory and implementation of a frequency-domain fluorescence lifetime confocal microscope using switched diode laser illumination. Standard, communications-type, radio-frequency electronics are used to provide inexpensive modulation references and to perform phase-sensitive detection. This allows the rapid acquisition of fluorescence intensity and lifetime images and their displ...

FDFD: A 3D Finite-Difference Frequency-Domain Code for Electromagnetic Induction Tomography

A new 3D code for ElectroMagnetic Induction Tomography (EMIT) with intended applications to environmental imaging problems has been developed. The approach consists of calculating the fields within a volume using an implicit finite-difference frequency-domain (FDFD) formulation. The volume is terminated by an anisotropic perfectly matched layer (PML) region that simulates an infinite domain by ...
